Heart of the Arbutus

Only found on the Pacific West Coast, the Arbutus tree is unique, exemplifying, grace, beauty and colour. The bark peels and drops away revealing the translucent heart within. The inner core of the Arbutus is almost florescent green while it is alive. As the weather touches the tender flesh beneath the bark it begins to fade to brown in an annual ritual of shedding the bark instead of its leaves.
